Floods bring havoc to 863 villages, killing 20 people in the Chandrapur district of Mahrashtra state in western India. The floods have brought havoc to villages and submerged more than a thousand hectares of land. Eleven irrigation projects have been disrupted and roads have been inundated with flood water.

India experiences monsoons from June to September, a vital time for agriculture. However, experts believe decades of mass deforestation has meant water levels are far higher than normal resulting in destructive floods. Report by Poppy Jamie.
